I had this on a to-do list for a while, and cleaning out stuff for the new year I listened to it. Makes a strong case for open data/government 2.0.
WHAT I GOT OUT OF THIS
–look at Gov 2.0/Open Data as a PLATFORM!
–Empower those who care enough to take action
–Make it easy for anyone to participate
I recently had a great conversation with Bill Finn of Finn Digital about the Data Initiative, and he brought up some interesting examples that I thought I would share. While not the same type of data initiative we are doing here in Milwaukee, these are good examples of how the Milwaukee Data Initiative can benefit the city as a whole (business, government, service providers).
I found a link on Twitter to this image and a related presentation (below) about the US government adopting open data principles in Health and Human Services. Done properly, this could herald a number of new ideas, businesses and innovations in healthcare that are going to be needed to deal with the challenges over the next 20 years.
